Hey flist!

So I'm back after a looooonnnnnggggggggggggg break.

So I'm unemployed. I quit my childcare gig in January after many months of stupid shit. I got written up and was told it was my one warning then termination. I had only ever gotten written up for tardies and that was 6 months or more ago. So I turned in my 2-weeks.

The stupid shit encompassed so much stuff.

-The management refused to investigate multiple complaints by multiple people over the same issues.
ie problem children
ie building maintence problems
ie lack of supplies for extensive periods of time

-Management allowed the abuse of attendance policies by certain employees yet docked other employees unfairly by those same policies.

-Major disruption of the efficient management of classrooms by ignoring basic sanitary protocols
ie Unfavorable working conditions for a daycare-such as no soap, no glove, no changing table paper, no paper towels
-Inconsistent routines for children-resulting in harder and more stressful working conditions
for employees
ie disrupting nap routine causing children to be harder to handle
ie Causing issues with parents
-Misuse and abuse of employee's time without compensation
ie I would go in at my scheduled time and be told to sit around without clocking in for 30-45
minutes at a time
-Inconsistent scheduling
i.e. Scheduled for two hour increments with two hour breaks in between
-6:30-9 then 11-6 6:30-9 then a break until 11 then 11-2 then break from 2-4 then
back for 4-6 (requiring three trips)
ie Non regular week-to-week schedules
-No support from franchise administration once complaints were filed against lower level management

I've been looking since then and can't find anything to even apply for, let alone getting any interviews.

I auditioned for a local production of Les Miserables. I wanted to be Eponine so bad, but I just wanted to be in the show in general. It took them 2 1/2 weeks to notify those of us who didn't get cast. Others got cast and were called a week earlier. I'm so tired of not being good enough for this group. It's really clique-y. I've been auditioning for them since I was 10.

Oh well, God has a plan for me and apparently this wasn't in it.

Hopefully the film I'm applying for will come through and this rejection won't matter. I asked God for the show and the film, but if I had to chose, I wanted the film. I want this film so bad and I hope I don't lose both.

I'm working with a nutritionist who is also my chiropractor. I love her! I've lost about 10 lbs in a month! I'm so excited. I'm only eating fruits, veggies, and meat-no bread/grains. I feel so much better. I ate bad for my best friend's birthday and felt like crap the day after-carb hangover, my doctor said. Felt like a hangover.

Anyways, that is what I've been up to.

So exciting I know.

Mississippi Personhood Amendment [Oct. 11th, 2011|10:37 pm]

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

internet powers, activate! [Jun. 14th, 2011|11:26 pm]

Okay, people. I need you to take this viral, and fast.

We know someone in upstate New York who needs a good custody lawyer ASAP. I'm not at liberty to go into details publicly, but this woman is very afraid that her abusive boyfriend is going to get sole custody of her young child.  She's presently being represented by a court-assigned lawyer who doesn't seem to care about the case, and she has very few resources left at this point. Her next hearing is on Thursday.

If you know a good lawyer in New York State who might be willing to take this case for a low fee or pro bono, or at least offer her advice or support, please let me know. If you don't know anyone, please repost this far and wide. As a mother and an abuse survivor, it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to contemplate a child being left in the hands of an abuser.

I can be reached at kythryne@gmail.com if you have any leads or want to help.

The internet can work miracles. Let's go.

Edit, Tuesday afternoon: Huge, huge thanks to everyone who has signal-boosted, offered resources, emailed me, and otherwise been willing to help. Our friend is overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers. Amy and I are driving over to New York tomorrow afternoon so we can provide support in person, and we are working on plans to help our friend and her daughter get back on their feet once the custody case is over.

(If you would be interested in donating an item or service to a fundraising auction in the near future, please let me know. Our friend is a talented artist and a wonderful mother to a beautiful little girl who deserves a safe home, and it wouldn't take much to make a huge difference in their lives.)

If anyone knows anybody that could help, that would be amazing!

It's been so long since I posted. I've been lurking alot.

So I have a job that I got beginning of March when I moved back from LA. It's as a teacher at a daycare center. It's frustrating at the best of times and stressful at the worst. However, most of my coworkers are pretty nice and I love most of the kids. And it's a job.

I have bronchitis right now. Never had it before, only coughs and colds. It's not fun feeling winded walking from one room to another. I've missed 4 days of work this week and wished I had taken tomorrow off. It's going to be interesting. My check is gonna SUCK next week.

I've lost 15 pounds in the last 2 months and working on more!

I was contacted by a cousin I've never met before. I don't have contact with my dad's side. She lives in Salford, Manchester. She wanted to talk to my dad. Dunno why though.

I'm in a local production of Children of Eden. It's pretty kind of a pain in the butt. I hope it gets better, although it does give me an opportunity to perform and sing.

Saw production of Spamalot. Fantastic!

Anyways, off to bed. <3 to my flist!
